Embarking on Regent Splendor: A Luxurious Adventure – By Summer & Emma
Embarkation Day
Our journey began as we joined Regent Splendor mid-sailing, flying from London Gatwick to Bergen, Norway. Upon arrival, we took a scenic 30-minute taxi ride through Bergen to the cruise terminal, where we were greeted by the stunning Regent Splendor.
As soon as we stepped aboard, we were welcomed with a warm hospitality that included a hot towel—a consistent touch throughout every embarkation. The ship’s design left us in awe, from the marble flooring to the exquisite chandeliers. At reception, we checked in, received our suite cards, and were handed a glass of champagne, setting the tone for the luxurious experience ahead.
Once we settled into our Superior Veranda Suite, we were delighted with the elegant touches. Our bathroom, complete with a marble finish, featured a large bath, shower, and double sink. Shortly after, our luggage arrived, allowing us to fully unpack and unwind.
For our first dining experience, we headed to Regent’s main restaurant, The Compass Rose. The meal was exceptional—starting with a locally sourced crab with melon and savoury sauce, followed by a perfectly cooked salmon fillet with triple-cooked chips. Dinner was paired with generous pours of champagne and wine, making the experience even more delightful. Afterward, we enjoyed a lively theatre performance that took us through the music of the 1980s, featuring talented dancers and singers.
Exhausted from a day of travel and excitement, we retired to our suite to rest, eager for the days ahead.
Stavanger – Day 2
We began our second day with a room service breakfast that we had pre-ordered the night before. At exactly 8:30 a.m., a delicious spread of hot food, fruit, and pastries arrived. After breakfast, we headed to the gym, which was conveniently located just one deck below our suite. The gym, split into two sections, offered both free weights and cardio equipment. It was quiet, making it the perfect space for a morning workout, with complimentary Gatorade available.
Post-gym, we indulged in the complimentary spa, enjoying the steam room, sauna, and the refreshing rainforest shower. We then relaxed by the infinity pool at the spa’s aft, soaking in the serene atmosphere.
That evening, we dined at Prime 7, Regent’s renowned steakhouse. We each ordered a steak and sampled an array of sides, including lobster. The meal was excellent, though I personally felt it was slightly outshined by a similar dining experience on Cunard’s Verandah Steakhouse. We finished the night with cocktails in the elegant Observation Lounge, listening to the pianist and enjoying the relaxed ambiance.
Kristiansand – Day 3
After another delightful breakfast at Coffee Connections, we disembarked in Kristiansand, where blue skies and warm weather greeted us. The town, just a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminal, was filled with art and charming details, such as artistic portraits on the drains. We spent the morning exploring and shopping before returning to the ship for dinner at Sette Mari. This open dining venue allowed us to try a variety of freshly prepared dishes. The relaxed atmosphere and the flexibility of choosing smaller portions made for a perfect, laid-back evening.
Afterward, we returned to the Observation Lounge, where we sipped drinks while enjoying live piano music—one of our favourite spots on the ship.
Oslo – Day 4
We arrived in Oslo for a two-day stay, and the personalised service continued to amaze. The staff, who had become familiar with our preferences, served us larger versions of our favourite frozen Italian coffees. We spent much of the day in the spa, relaxing and unwinding before dinner at Pacific Rim, an Asian restaurant staffed entirely by women. As a fan of Asian cuisine, we were thrilled, especially by the chicken gyozas, tuna tartar, and Pad Thai.
In the evening, we ventured off the ship to explore Oslo’s vibrant nightlife. The city, beautifully illuminated, reminiscent of London, with a lively bar scene that was well worth experiencing.
Oslo – Day 5
On our second day in Oslo, we started with drinks by the pool, where the staff continued to impress by remembering our names and orders. Later, we took a scenic boat tour around Oslo’s fjords, which was the perfect way to enjoy the warm weather and beautiful surroundings.
Lunch by the pool bar included freshly made sandwiches and mocktails, ideal for those who wanted a break from alcohol but still enjoy the experience. We rounded off the day with a visit to the gym, enjoying breathtaking views of the fjords as we sailed.
Dinner was another relaxed affair at Sette Mari, followed by a lively night in the Splendor Lounge. The entertainment staff made a genuine effort to connect with guests, creating an inviting and engaging atmosphere throughout the trip.
Sea Day – Day 6
Our only sea day was spent enjoying the ship’s many amenities. We participated in activities led by the entertainment team, which allowed us to get to know the performers. Lunch at the pool grill was a highlight, although the service varied between table service and self-service. Nevertheless, we enjoyed another beautiful day at sea, with the attentive staff ensuring our drinks were always refreshed.
Our evening was spent at the Meridian Lounge, enjoying star martinis while waiting for a dinner table at Sette Mari. Once seated, the staff’s willingness to accommodate us, even on short notice, once again demonstrated the exceptional service on board.
Disembarkation
Sadly, the day had come to disembark this incredible ship. The process, much like embarkation, was seamless and efficient. After saying our goodbyes, we exited through the Amsterdam port and took a taxi to the airport.
Reflecting on the experience, the Regent Splendor exceeded all expectations. From the attentive staff to the luxurious design and outstanding food, this was truly a journey like no other. Sailing on this ship is an unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking luxury and elegance at sea.
