European Cruises

Europe is such a vibrant and modern continent and the home of many famous and contrasting civilisations. All of these past civilisations have left their mark on the culture, language, cuisine and architecture of this most varied and beautiful of places.

From the incredible heritage of the Baltic and the stunning majesty of the rugged Norwegian Fjords to the sophistication of the French Riviera and the exotic sights and sounds of the Turkish souks, a luxury European cruise is one of life's most indulgent pleasures. Europe offers a huge variety for the luxury traveller and is the destination for some of our most sought after luxury cruises, which is understandable given the broad choice of ship size, itinerary and type of luxury cruise available.

We have yet to undertake a European luxury cruise that we have not thoroughly enjoyed. Every part of Europe has something different to offer the luxury cruise traveller, so let's now take a look at just some of the gems of European luxury cruising.

Northern European Cruises

From the remote expanses of the Arctic Circle to the stunning Norwegian fjords and Iceland, the grandeur of the Baltic and the comfort of British Isles cruises, Northern European luxury cruises continue to grow in popularity each year and many include the convenience of being able to sail round-trip from the UK. The best time to visit this part of Europe is from May through to September - but Northern Lights cruises have to be undertaken in October or November to enjoy mother natures most spectacular light show. Layered clothing is appropriate for all cruises in this area as the weather can vary during the day, and it is important to be comfortable whilst enjoying all the delights that this part of the world has to offer.

More small ship luxury lines, such as Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn and Silversea are offering round-trip UK luxury cruises to this part of the world, and these grow in popularity every year. Both Cunard and Saga offer a wide range of round-trip UK luxury cruises for fans of larger ships with even more facilities. Fly/ cruising also provides a great way to see Northern Europe, with Copenhagen and Stockholm proving the most popular gateways to the Baltic.

Western European Cruises

The western coast of France and Portugal is so very close to the UK, but many of us Brits have never visited this part of the world and it is one that is best visited by luxury cruise ship. Most luxury cruise ships will offer this itinerary as a repositioning cruise from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean or vice versa, so they tend to occur more often in the Spring or Autumn.

Popular ports include Lisbon and Leixoes in Portugal and Bordeaux and La Rochelle in France. If you are a wine connoisseur, then you will be in heaven visiting these renowned wine growing regions and sampling everything that they have to offer. All of these fascinating ports have a heritage rich in glorious cuisine, architecture and hospitality and we cannot recommend a luxury cruise to Western Europe highly enough. Again, round-trip UK cruises to this region are available for those that do not wish to fly, with both Saga and Cunard providing such opportunities.

Southern European Cruises

Many people have enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise, but cruising this ancient sea on a small luxury ship is a very difference experience. Our smaller ships can visit the smaller ports that larger ships cannot, so one often experiences a more authentic and less tourist-focused experience. Our favourite smaller ports include Portofino, Monte Carlo, Amalfi, Capri, Kotor and St. Tropez. These ships do not miss out on the world-renowned famous cities of Rome, Barcelona, Venice, Athens and Istanbul, a small ship luxury cruise in the Mediterranean can offer a great contrast of hidden gems and busy, famous locations.

A wide choice of luxury round-trip UK and fly/cruise holidays are offered from April to October, with late-May to September providing the best chance of enjoying the glorious Mediterranean sun. Luxury fly/cruise holidays to the Mediterranean will often commence in the south of France or Spain or in Rome, Venice, Athens or Istanbul - offering a great opportunity to extend your stay in these charming cities either before or after your luxury cruise. There are also a very wide choice of fly/cruise itineraries from 6 nights to over 28 nights. Luxury round-trip UK Mediterranean cruise are provided by both Cunard Line and Saga.

Whichever region of Europe is calling you for your next luxury cruise, the team of luxury experts at The Sovereign Cruise Club will be here to assist you in finding the perfect cruise for you at the guaranteed best prices.
