Transatlantic Crossings

It is fitting that one of the world‘s most iconic journeys is now only possible on a regular scheduled service on board the world’s most iconic and last remaining Ocean Liner, Cunard Line's RMS Queen Mary 2.

The history of The Sovereign Cruise Club, Cunard and the QM2 are inextricably linked. Our Managing Director, Stefan Shillito was the Senior Sales Manager for Cunard when they announced the building of the Queen Mary 2, and he was privileged to visit the ship on a number of occasions when she was under construction in the yard. She remains Stefan's favourite large luxury ship and he also had the privilege of visiting her in the yard in Hamburg in 2016 when she had her first major refit and Stefan sailed on the QM2 with a number of our teams from Hamburg back to Southampton. Both Stefan and the team at Sovereign have done numerous transatlantic crossings on both the Queen Mary 2, and her illustrious predecessor, the QE2.

Sir Samuel Cunard established the first regular crossing of the Atlantic in 1840. Over 180 years later, we invite you to uncover a truly unique and timeless experience, savouring seven blissful days of indulgence and inspiration at sea, to do as much or as little as you please. Step away from the bustle and frenzy of the everyday to an unhurried, dignified and peerless world with a wonderful dash of glamour. Surrender to the different rhythms of relaxing freedom, White Star service and stylish celebration that only the transatlantic crossing can provide. As you edge away from Southampton or New York, ahead lies the boundless, uninterrupted, wide, grey Atlantic Ocean. Days are filled with new discoveries and delights and nights are full of music, dancing and laughter that will stay with you forever. Sailing past the Statue of Liberty as New York's distinctive skyline frames the backdrop to your occasion is quite simply an experience of a lifetime.

Whilst the famous Cunard tagline of “Getting there is half the fun!” is true it would be extremely difficult not to have fun in one of our favourite cities, New York. The city that never sleeps is constantly reinventing itself and whilst many of the team at Sovereign have visited this most famous cities on numerous occasions, there is always something new to discover.

Your transatlantic crossing luxury options

As mentioned above, the Queen Mary 2 is the only ship that does regular scheduled transatlantic crossings and these take place mainly from April to December, with a few crossings in early January before her World Cruise commences. On the April to December crossings it is often possible to do a round trip transatlantic crossing and spend a few hours in New York, or you can also travel on the ship either down to the Caribbean or up to Canada and then cruise or fly home. Most transatlantic crossings on the QM2 are for seven days, the longer itineraries which include cruising to the Caribbean or Canada and New England take up to 28 nights, please call us for details and the guaranteed best fares.

Many other luxury cruise lines do transatlantic crossings as repositioning cruises when they are moving the ships from the Caribbean to Europe in the Spring or back to the Caribbean from Europe in the Autumn. Some, like Seabourn and Seadream will travel on the most direct southerly route with few ports of call and with many days at sea - we love these. These are often tremendous value and it is possible to tag on a Mediterranean or a Caribbean cruise either before or after your crossing, this is popular with many of our clients.

The vast majority of luxury cruise lines also do a variety of more port intensive and slower crossings that often depart New York or Boston in the Spring and call into New England, Canada, Greenland, Iceland and finish in the UK or mainland Europe. These tend to be 14 to 21 nights in duration and the reverse itineraries take place in the Autumn.
